Navigate user of the month: August 2020
Amanda Armstrong
Pamplin College of Business
How has your department/unit benefited from using Navigate?
The advising team in the Pamplin College of Business transitioned to using Navigate last fall (2019). Before this, we had used a different scheduling and note-taking system for many years. One benefit I’ve experienced in using Navigate is our ability to collaborate more seamlessly within the college (our Undergraduate Programs office encompasses advising, career services, and international programs) as well as across the university with documented referrals.
What feature in Navigate do you utilize the most?
I primarily use the reporting feature, both for scheduled appointments and email communications given our office’s move to virtual advising during the pandemic. More recently, I’ve begun using the scheduling feature more since I support our Pamplin Peer Advisors who are now using Navigate for reporting on their virtual appointments this semester.
What would you tell other advisors who are thinking of using Navigate?
Whether as an individual advisor or a staff, I’d encourage them to chat with those in Academic Advising Initiatives to discuss their needs and concerns because there is lots of support through training and always room for platform improvements.
