Virginia Tech's 17^th Annual Academic Advising Conference

On behalf of Virginia Tech and Academic Advising & Transition Support, we are excited to host Virginia Tech's 17^th Advising Matters Conference on Friday, March 5, 2027, at the Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center.

This year’s conference theme, "Rooted & Rising: Grounding ourselves in community, growing toward what's possible,” asks us to think about the people who make student success possible: the advisors, educators, and higher education professionals who support students every day. As we encourage our students to build strong foundations, find community, and pursue what’s possible, this year we want to create space for our advising community to do the same. Together, we will explore how we can stay connected to and be supported by our communities while continuing to grow as individuals and professionals.

This one-day event aims to bring together advisors, faculty, and staff from Virginia Tech and across the region to share ideas, stay up to date on best practices, and create quality professional development opportunities. Through an opening session, concurrent sessions, and opportunities for connection and reflection, the conference will explore how we can stay grounded in what sustains us while continuing to grow.

Professional advisors, counselors, faculty, administrators, and those dedicated to student success who are working to enhance the educational development of students are encouraged to attend the Advising Matters Conference.

Conference Overview

The 17^th Annual Advising Matters Conference will kick off at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, March 5, 2027, and conclude by 4:00 p.m. The conference will provide you with the following opportunities:

• Formal and informal networking with faculty and professional advisors committed to facilitating student academic success
• An interactive workshop and concurrent sessions focusing on advising tools, collaboration across the university and professional development for academic advisors
• Opportunities for professional development for all advisors
• Discussions on critical issues in academic advising
• A range of theoretical, practical, and interactive presentations
