Housing
On-Campus Options
For transfer students looking to experience on-campus housing, Virginia Tech offers the Transfer Experience Living-Learning Community, a residential program specifically designed to meet the needs of students who transfer to Virginia Tech from a community college or another four-year institution. Transfer Experience creates an environment where you can live with fellow transfers and will provide connections to a variety of campus resources. Weekly events will assist transfer students in navigating a new environment and meeting the goals they have for the coming academic year.
Due to limited on-campus spots for transfer students, any transfer students seeking to live on campus in the fall must follow these steps:
- Apply to the Transfer Experience LLC
- Applications can be completed once an incoming fall transfer student has accepted their offer of admission from Virginia Tech and paid the enrollment deposit (please allow three business days to process). After this time, the application can be found in the StarRez Portal. The application to join Transfer Experience opens mid-April, and decisions are made on a rolling basis.

- If accepted, you will receive a housing contract to live in the Transfer Experience LLC designated location (Newman Hall).
- In addition to applying to Transfer Experience, you can also place your name on the housing waitlist via StarRez.
- If you are not taken off the waitlist and not accepted to Transfer Experience, you will have to seek off-campus arrangements. It is important to note that on-campus housing is not guaranteed for transfer students.
- On-Campus Housing for transfer students tends to fill up quickly. If you’d like to live on campus, it is in your best interest to apply to the Transfer Experience LLC as soon as you are able.
- Housing for incoming spring transfers varies based on availability. Spring transfers are encouraged to place their names on the housing waitlist via StarRez. Spring transfers can also email transferllc@vt.edu to inquire about availability in Transfer Experience.
