Signing Up for Summer Classes

Summer Timeline


  1. Offer of admissions April 15, 2020 from Undergraduate Admissions
  2. Accept offer and pay matriculation fee by May 15, 2020 
  3. Create VT username and VT email address - be sure to check this email on a daily basis!
  4. Enroll in the 2-Factor Authentication with Duo and download the DUO Mobile App on your (not your parents!) personal smartphone
  5. Complete required items for new students:
    Immunizations
    Computer requirements
    Online programs - you will receive an email at your VT email account from Everfi with links to access these online programs
    Update your SRAR with your spring grades by June 15, 2020 and send to VT official transcripts with spring grades AS SOON AS POSSIBLE
  6. Register for summer classes (summer class registration information by college below)
    S1 (first 6 week summer session): last day to add classes is - May 28, 2020; Classes begin May 26
    S2 (second 6 week summer session): last day to add classes - July 10, 2020; Classes begin July 8
    S3 (12 week summer session): last day to add classes - May 29, 2020; Classes begin May 26
  7. Pay summer tuition 
  8. Purchase textbooks

Summer Class Registration by College


Brand new summer transfer students intending to major in the following majors will have a hold on their account:

  • Agricultural Leadership and Community Education = Orientation Hold
  • Animal and Poultry Sciences = New Student Hold
  • Dairy Science = Meet with Advisor Hold
  • Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise = HF Hold
Students in CALS not intending to major in the majors listed above will not have a hold on their account and may proceed with registering for summer classes.
 

Your new academic advisor can remove the hold after you have connected with them to discuss summer courses. If you are unsure who your academic advisor is, please email the Director of Advising, Ms. Jennifer Carr, for assistance.

Brand new summer transfer students majoring in Landscape Architecture (LAR) and Interior Design (ITDS) will be enrolled by these departments  in their required summer studio courses. If you have questions or need assistance please contact the Director of Advising, Mr. Rob Jacks, for assistance.

Brand new summer transfer students will have a "new student registration hold" on your account. Your new academic advisor can remove the hold after you have connected with them to discuss summer courses. If you are unsure who your academic advisor is, please email the Director of Academic Support, Dr. Karen Watson, for assistance.

Our advising team registers you ahead of time for your summer courses. You can make changes after you meet with your academic advisor. Not sure who is your academic advisor? You will receive an email from your assigned advisor on June 3 introducing themselves and with instructions on how to connect with them to receive academic advising. If you have questions or are not sure who your academic advisor is, you can email cnre_students@vt.edu.

Please complete the General Engineering Pre-Orientation Form on the General Engineering Pre-Orientation Checklist to indicate if you want to enroll in summer classes at Virginia Tech. If you selected yes, we will reach out to you to discuss summer courses and assist you with summer registration. If you have questions or need assistance, please email the Director of Advising, Dr. Marlena Lester, for assistance.

Brand new summer transfer students will have a “Orientation” hold on their account that prevents summer course registration. Transfer students need to contact their department advisors to discuss summer classes and get assistance with summer course registration. If you have questions, please contact cosadvising@vt.edu.  

College of Science advisors are assigned as follows:

Please email pcobrecruiting@vt.edu to discuss summer course options and if starting at VT in the summer is right for you.  If your entry term has been changed to summer by the Office of Admissions, you will work with the Advising Team on registration. Please be aware you will have a “new student” registration hold on your account so you will not be able to register yourself for summer courses.
