What was the biggest challenge you encountered as a transfer college student and how did you overcome it? VT was on the quarter system, and the classes were very fast paced. I had little time for anything other than studying and doing homework. I was also intimidated by the size of the classes (typically 50 - 60 students) and my own self-imposed competition to do good. I think as an outsider coming into a program in the junior year, you feel a need to prove yourself and this can be quite stressful. Once I got to know some friends, things got much better. That helped with test prep and just fitting into the school.
What is one piece of advice you would give transfer college students? VT is an awesome place with a welcoming student body. Embrace it because you will need the support network to survive the classes.
