Advising Matters Conference

Virginia Tech's 15th Annual Academic Advising Conference

On behalf of Virginia Tech and Academic Advising Initiatives, we are excited to extend to you an invitation to attend Virginia Tech's 15th annual academic advising conference. Advising Matters will be held on Friday, March 7, 2025, at the Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center.

As professionals, we all need time to expand our knowledge and find solutions to problems that facilitate student success. Here is just that opportunity! The Advising Matters Conference is designed to be a means for sharing ideas, staying up to date on best practices and providing quality advising professional development opportunities for advisors at Virginia Tech, the state, and region. This year’s conference theme, “Advising Matters: Everyone Plays a Role in Student Success,” underscores the importance of a unified approach to student support, recognizing that students often perceive the institution as a whole rather than through departmental lenses. By fostering an integrated approach through collaboration and shared responsibility among all members of the institutional community, we can create a holistic support system that enhances student experiences and outcomes.

The conference will be a one-day event including an opening session, concurrent sessions, and other activities with the goal of enhancing advising knowledge and skills for faculty and staff while also increasing effectiveness of our advising programs.

We look forward to an exciting 2025 Conference!

Sincerely,
Lauren Thomas
Director for Academic Advising Initiatives & Conference Chair
