Date: Friday, March 1, 2024
Location: The Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center

Call for Proposals

Proposals will be accepted October 23 - November 24, 2023.

Breakout sessions and workshops will provide members of the academic advising community multiple opportunities to enhance their professional development and overall well-being. We are looking for interactive, innovative, and engaging presentations that will help get attendees prepared for advising when working with first-generation students and other populations. Successful proposal themes may include:

  • Students on probation
  • Mental health issues
  • Advising first-year students
  • Academic preparation
  • Working with parents
  • Advising and student retentions
  • At-risk students
  • Advising special student populations
  • Managing culture shock/stress
  • Preparing for family responsibilities that conflict with academic responsibilities
  • Dealing with a lack of understanding from family about academic responsibilities
  • Handling financial difficulties
  • Distance learning

Proposal Guidelines

Proposals should include your presentation title and a brief abstract (100 words max) describing the learning objectives. The title does not have to incorporate the conference theme but would be helpful. Abstracts will be included in the conference program and on the conference website. Proposals will be accepted October 23 - November 24, 2023.
