What do you enjoy about your role in advising?

I enjoy the opportunity to empower students by helping them navigate their academic journey and make informed choices about their future. I like guiding students through challenging situations, providing them with options they might not have known were available, and witnessing their growth as they achieve their goals. The ability to foster meaningful connections and support students in discovering their passions and strengths is deeply rewarding.

In what ways have you contributed to advising in your department/area?

Currently, I am chairing a task-force to focus on student retention and matriculation to graduation. This led to developing an Academic Outreach initiative, utilizing surveys and resources to proactively support students and has successfully retained several students within the program. Additionally, as advisor of the ISE Ambassador program, we have focused on building stronger bonds between students and the department and its alumni.

What advice would you give to other professionals who want to make a difference in the life of their students?

Embrace the philosophy that "you don't know what you don't know," and encourage students to explore all their options. Continuously seek professional development opportunities to stay informed about best practices in advising and be open to adapting new methods. Above all, be patient and a consistent source of support, guiding them toward becoming confident, self-reliant individuals who can navigate their own paths to success.
