Section 1: Foundations of Academic Advising

The academic advising profession is supported and guided by the National Academic Advising Association: The global community for academic advising (NACADA). NACADA promotes and supports quality academic advising in institutions of higher education to enhance the educational development of students. NACADA provides a forum for discussion, debate, and the exchange of ideas pertaining to academic advising through numerous activities and publications. NACADA provides guiding principles which affirm the role of academic advising in higher education, thereby supporting the institutional mission, while at the same time, anticipating the needs of 21st century students, academic advisors, and institutions.
