What is one of your favorite parts of your role as an advisor? The thing I enjoy most is the relationship-building. I have a smaller caseload so have more time to invest in one-on-one student interactions and to engage with alumni which has yielded multiple benefits for current students in terms of job and internship opportunities and professional development advice.
What is one piece of advice you would offer to a brand new advisor? The time and effort it takes to make advising more personal is entirely worth it. We get so bogged down in the administrative pieces of our jobs that it’s ironically sometimes the student appointments that become the thing that interrupts our workflow. The student experience should be the focus above all else.
