Years as an academic advisor: 2
Why did you choose to be an academic advisor? I knew that I wanted to play a role in helping students navigate the world of Higher Education. I believe that education is such a vital piece for our society to move forward and I find it profoundly rewarding to guide students in their academic pursuits.
What do you wish students knew about academic advisors? I wish that students knew that their advisor is there to have their back, to help them navigate the challenges they will encounter in college, but to also celebrate their successes.
What is one of your favorite parts of your role as an advisor? I love the moments in advising when a student has a clear moment of growth or self-actualization. Our students are incredible and it's so inspiring to see when they start to believe in their own capabilities. It’s even better when they out grow their initial dreams and imagine even bigger ones for their future.
What is one piece of advice you would offer to a brand new advisor? Develop a strong self care plan. You can only advise well if you are fulling up your cup first.
